Mysore : The birth anniversary of Basavanna, the great social reformer was celebrated in a meaningful manner in the city on Friday May 2. Floral tributes were paid to the statue of Basavanna in front of the JSS College by dignitaries including Deputy Commissioner C Shikha at a programme held on behalf of the District Administration.



Various organisations rendered Vachanas and remembered the social reformer who tried to correct the society through his Vachanas.
MLA Tanveer Sait who addressed a function held in this connection said it were Basavanna’s preachings which helped in bringing about meaningful changes in the society. He said the teachings of Basavanna are relevant at all times.
State Minister for Co-operation Mahadeva Prasad, MK Somashekhar, MLA, Koorgalli Mahadev, Zilla Panchayat President, Jayanthi, Regional Commissioner and others were present.
Various organisations including District Veerashaiva Mahasabha, Basava Balaga and Federation of Veerashaiva organisations too offered tributes to Basavanna.
