Bantwal : A bike rider  died on the spot after his vehicle skid on the Mangalore-Bangalore  National Highway on December 22 Sunday night. The pillion rider  who sustained critical head injuries has been admitted to a private hospital in Puttur.

The deceased is Umesh Poojari (38), son of Anni Poojari of Budoli in Peraje village. The pillion rider has been identified as Purushottam.

The mishap is learnt to have taken place when Umesh along with his friend Purushottam  was  returning to the latters house after  attending a Mehendi function at Neralakatte. At around 11.30 pm, the bike skid  near the Maani telephone exchange.

The bike was badly mangled in the mishap.  There was no one around at that time to help the victims. Later, two local autorickshaw drivers Jubair and Azeez, admitted the injured to the hospital and took  the body to the Puttur Government Hospital.

A case has been registered in Vittal police station.
