The leopard had earlier pounced on the cows and calves in the fields of Madhava, a resident of Angadipalke Kulalu. Finally, Madhava had complained to the Forest Department following which a cage was placed to trap the animal.  The leopard as expected had arrived, this time to pounce on a dog but was caught in the trap. Hundreds of people arrived to catch a glimpse of the wild animal which was taken to Pilikula sanctuary in Mangalore by the forest officials.
