Bantwal:The demand for a CBI probe into the year old Sowjanya rape and murder case has echoed even in Bantwal. On October 31, Thursday, a protest was staged in front of the Taluk Office at BC Road under the aegis of the Bantwal Taluk Nyayapara Horata Samithi wherein agitators demanded that the government entrusted the case to the CBI at the earliest.


While alleging that an attempt was being made to shield the accused, the agitators also said the CID police who investigating the case have succumbed to pressure and influence. Only an impartial CBI probe can deliver justice, they said. A demand was also placed forth to probe the over 500 cases of unnatural deaths of young men and women in Dharmasthala area since the past 35 years.
Lokesh Shanthi, President of the Samithi, Keshav Naik, Sridhar Amin, Bhanuchandra Krishnapura and others spoke on the occasion.
College student Ashwitha in an emotionally charged speech said Sowjanya’s soul can rest in peace only when the truth is exposed.
The protestors who shouted slogans against the Police Department and the Government, submitted memorandum to the Governor through Tahsildar Malleswami. Representatives of various organizations and college students participated in the protest in large numbers.
