Mangalore :Backward Castes Union of Udupi and Dakshina Kannada District has sought CBI probe into sowjanya rape and murder case at the press conference held here today.

M Jayananda Devadiga secretory of Backward Castes Union said that the police have arrested an innocent person in connection to rape and murder of Sowjanya on October 9, 2012. 

He said that the case has to be handed over to the CBI to punish real culprits.The police have failed to arrest the real culprits due to pressure from various quarters. Along with this one group is diverting public by stating that this issue is spoiling reputation of Dharmasthala and also Veerendra Heggade, which is false.

He also said that victims parents have no hopes on CID report and they want CBI probe.

Union members Naveenchandra Suvarna,Purshotham Kottari and Vasudeva Boloor were present.
