Bakrid celebrated with fervour

Mangaluru: Bakrid was celebrated in the city with a lot of fervour. Several Muslims dressed in the best of their clothes assembled at the Idgah Maidan on Light House Hill road as also other mosques to offer their prayers on the occasion.

Bakrid, the second of two biggest Islamic festivals celebrated worldwide each year is observed on the 10th day of Islamic month Dhu-al-Hijjah.

Animals such as sheep, cows and goats are slaughtered on this occasion in commemoration of Abraham’s willingness to sacrifice his son on God’s command.The meat is shared with their families and portions donated to the poor.
