Mangalore: A middle-aged auto-rickshaw driver reportedly committed suicide by hanging himself in an unused portion of the Mangalore Taluk office building in State Bank. As the news spread, scours of auto drivers rushed to the spot on Sunday morning.

The deceased has been identified as Sudhakara Shetty of Kanduka, Mangalore. On prima facie, the incident appeared to be a case of suicide. His body was seen hanging to the wooden beam layer across the roof at the Taluk office.

One of the colleague auto drivers at the State Bank said, ‘the deceased was supposed to hand over the annual collection of nearly Rs 2 lakh today to the association, which was collected by many auto drivers to celebrate Mangalore Dasara festival’. However, the cause for suicide is unknown.

The Bundar police visited the spot.
