“Arso” Konkani fortnightly slated for release on Nov 28

Mangalore : Eminent Konkani poet, writer and critic Henry Mendonca who has carved a niche for himself in the Konkani literary field since the past 28 years and is popular as HM Pernal, is now all set to bring out a Konkani fortnightly named ‘Arso.’

Eminent Kannada writer Dr. Na. D’Souza will release the fortnightly at a  simple ceremony to be held in the city on November 28, Thursday. Fr Richard Coelho, Director of Fr Muller Medical College and Hospital, will be the chief guest.

Henry Mendonca who has been successfully running the website ‘kittall,com’ dedicated exclusively for Konkani literature, since the past three years, has until now authored three anthology of poems namely ‘Chalyank Chatrai’(Hudugarige Echcharike),  ‘Kaydacho Kavitha’ (Kaidiya Kavithegalu) and ‘Bhamunchem Chedum’ (Brahmanara Hudgi). His collection of stories is Devak Sodollo Pado (Devarige Bitta Hori).

He has also won   first prizes in literary contests conducted by various dailies and organizations. Since the past two years he has been conferring the Leo Rodrigues Kutam Kittall Yuva Puraskar to promising young Konkani writers. The award  carries a cash prize of Rs 10000 and a citation. His Kittall.com has also provided a good platform for budding Konkani writers.

‘ Kittall.com offers its readers  Konkani literature  in its around 40,000 web pages. But it is reaching only those readers having internet connections. Arso fortnightly is therefore being brought out to reach  out Konkani literature even the rural readers,” says Henry.

The Arso fortnightly will be an eight page tabloid initially and  the annual subscription  fee is Rs 250. The pages will be increased to 12 and 16 in the days to come,” says Mendonca.
