Ancient sculptural vestiges discovered

Udupi: Ancient sculptural vestiges including pottery pieces of early historical period were discovered at Ellampalli near Neelavara in Udupi taluk recently.

The vestiges were discovered by the staff of the  Department of Ancient History and Archaeology, M.S.R.S. College, Shirva. The press release issued by History Department Head Prof. T Murugeshi stated that the college conducted archaeological exploration as a part of Vivekananda Jayanti at Ellampalli.

A round base with broken foots and prop made in soft stone, profusely used in Hoysala period were found near the Vishnumurthi temple which is under renovation. It might be the vestiges of Janardhana or Channakeshava image of 14th century. Besides few pot shreds of early historical period were also recovered from the surface of the site, the release added.
