Ale Khan Waterfalls Beauty Spot lies on Charmady Ghat Road

Bantwal: Charmady…! No sooner the nature lovers hear its name, they would experience adrenalin rush. Charmady is the mighty hill, with dense jungles, small and big waterfalls. If one takes a round of Charmady Ghat, it would revive the spirits viewing the bounty of nature. It gets maximum rainfall, owing to which streams flow throughout the year. Meanwhile, Ale Khan waterfalls that forms part of Charmady Ghat route is the most significant one. 

Location:

As one travels on Charmady Ghat road,comes across a small temple, if one goes a little further; there lies Ale Khan bus stop. Further, a bridge has been laid with dividers the road, while one will hear the sounds of waterfall on to the right side in the wilderness.  If one stands on the bridge and views the expanse of vegetation, one is likely to see Ale Khan Waterfalls tucked in the dense forest. Although we can reach the spot on the steep corner, it is much dangerous that can only adventurous hikers can take.  Since Ale Khan waterfalls is located on Western Ghats, it has flow throughout from August till January. It is a great delight to view the Ale Khan waterfalls on Charmady that is cooler throughout the year. The majority of motorists halt for a while, here to enjoy the scenic beauty of mother nature.

How to reach there?

If one travels about 18 kilometers on Beltangady – Ujire route, can reach Ale Khan waterfalls.  Those who come by Chikmagalur – Mudigere route can reach here just 4 kilometers away from Kottigehara. If you are coming from Ujire, there are KSRTC buses or hire a jeep to reach the spot. The bus services are a few after 6.00pm, its advisable to retreat from Charmnady Ghat ahead of that.

Preparations needed:

Those who travel to Charmady that is always cooler need to carry warm clothes to protect themselves from harsh weather.  The entire regions usually engulfs with thick fog during January that reduces the normal temperature. Those who go on hiking to Ale Khan waterfalls, had to take walking stick and shoes.  Meanwhile, one has to be careful in clicking the pictures because the entire location is slippery indeed.

Other interesting locations: 

Besides Ale Khan waterfalls, there lies Ale Khan Estate just 7 kilometers away.  There are other hillocks known as Balekallu, Yerikallu and Jenkallu, that gives great delight to the hikers who will never be satiated with the thirst for mother nature. 

How come the name Ale Khan emerged?

The locals say the name developed from Ali Khan who owned a estate nearby.  Meanwhile, the waterfall that was located near his estate gradually changed its name as Ale Khan waterfalls. 

Make sure, you carry food:   

Its essential you carry food especially for those hikers who go near to Ale Khan waterfalls.  The accommodations are available in Kottigehara that lies on the top of Charmady Ghat and at Ujire, on the foothill. One can stay in government guest house on Charmady Ghat road.  The early reservation is essential to make sure comfortable stay. One will not find any food throughout Charmady Ghat road. Therefore, carry drinking water and snacks. Kottigehara is famous for watery-dosas that one can have stomach-full in one of several petty shops there.
