Kasargod : In an incident that sheds light on the agony of traumatised families of Endosulfan  victims, a couple hailing from Chervattur allegedly committed suicide after killing their  9 year old son who was affected by Endosulfan, at a private hospital at Kanhangad on June 1, Sunday.

The deceased are Thamban (50), his wife Padmini (42) and their son Karthik (9). The boy was admitted to the hospital on Friday May 30 and was likely to be discharged on Sunday June1. But even before that the couple chose the extreme step of ending their lives after killing their son. Sources said the couple had lost their earlier two children to Endosulfan and were deeply agonised to know that even their third child was affected by the  killer pesticide.

Sources also informed that they were at complete loss as they could not arrange funds for the treatment of their son as they had not received   compensation package despite having ID cards for Endosulfan hit people. The deceased Thamban was a mason.

The suicide came to light when a nurse who knocked at the hospital door informed others when there was no response from inside. If the couple were found hanging  Karthik  was found gagged and tied to the window grill.

Kanhangad DSP has been directed by the DC to investigate the tragic incident. Kanhangad police have registered a case.
