Moodbidri : In an incident reported from the heart of Moodbidri town in the wee hours of Sunday June 1, a businessman foiled a burglary attempt in his house by a drunkard, by firing in the air and handing over the thief to the police.

The trapped thief is Girish of Bogrugudde in Pranthya village. He is said to be an alcoholic. The occupants of the house woke up at around1.30 am  on hearing the sound of someone breaking open the doors. When the peeped through the  window, they saw a person trying to break open the door while three others standing guard outside the gate.

As the family members switched on the lights, the thief who was trying to break open the door tried to flee. With a great presence of mind the house owner who owns a business in Bangalore, rushed out with a revolver in hand and fired in the air. As the thief tried to attack the house owner, the latter in true cinematic style placed the revolver on his head and warned of shooting him down.

Later, the police were informed and the thief was handed over to them.  But surprisingly, the police who enquired the thief at the station, let him free the same night on realising that he had attempted burglary under the influence of alcohol.

The businessman  who had been to the station on Sunday on coming to know that the thief had been let free, took the police to task. Later they once again took him to custody.

It has now been gathered that Girish and the three others had  consumed alcohol to their full at a bar in Moodbidri before deciding to resort to burglary. Investigations are underway.
