Aged couple cheated by Bhatkal tour operator

Mangalore: A couple has accused a tour operator from Bhatkal, of cheating  them during Umrah pilgrimage to Madinah in Saudi Arabia. They made these allegations during a press meet at the Press Club in the city on Friday February 14.

The couple 70-year-old Abdul Rahiman and his wife 62-year-old Bi Fathima residents of Kaikamba contended that Ansar Matta of Matta Umra Service, Bhatkal has cheated them.

Rahiman said that Matta had promised to arrange entire Umrah tour at Rs 90,000 with no hidden costs and also promised to provide all facilities including food and accomodation at no additional cost. A letter too was given in this regard. However when the couple reached  Jeddah halfway through their journey the agent demanded an additional  Rs 20,000.They also had to bear expenses when they reached Mumbai. The couple claimed that altogether they had to spend more than Rs 1 lakh.

Rahiman  also said that they were treated badly and the agent misbehaved with them during the entire trip. The result of all this was that they had to be  admitted to hospital for some days after their return. After full recovery, Rahiman filed a complaint in Bajpe police station against the tour operator. He has also lodged a  complaint with  the IGP (Western Range).
