Mangalore : The members of the Akhila Bharatiya Vidyarthi Parishad  staged a protest against the proposed CET Act-2006 in the State by forming a human chain at the Bunts Hostel circle in Mangalore on December 18, Wednesday. The agitators shouted slogans denouncing the state government and urged it to revoke its decision.

Ramesh K, State Secretary of ABVP who addressed the protestors said the state government was planning to implement the Act with a ploy to prevent meritorious students hailing from poor families from  obtaining professional education.

He also charged the  state government of pursing anti-student policies. If the Act is implemented then there would be no government quota seats left in private unaided  professional colleges, he feared  and said the Act would only give way for private institutions to fleece the students  in the name of fees.

He also said once the Act is enforced the government will have no hold over  admission  fees  in private professional colleges  in turn giving supreme power to the management boards.

Yatish Kumar P, District Co-Convenor of ABVP, Chethan, Secretary of city unit, Yashaswini, Shyam Prasad, Sowmya, Madhura, Vishalakshi, Krithik and others took part in the protest.
