Mangaluru: “The Karnataka State sports department has sanctioned Rs 2 lakhs for the adventure sports meet ‘Auto Cross 2015’ which will be  a huge boost to the event and the sport”, said Minister for youth empowerment and sports, and fisheries K Abhayachandra Jain.

The minister was addressing the audience after inaugurating the 2-day motoring extravaganza ‘Auto Cross and Auto Expo 2015’ and handing over the cheque to the organizers.  Tribhuvan Automobile Sports Club (TASC), Bedra Adventure Club (BAC) Moodbidri, JCI Moodbidri and Indian Motor Sports Club (IMSC) have jointly organized Autocross 15 and Auto expo on 4th & 5th of April 2015 at Pancharatna grounds Moodbidri.

Abhayachandra said that the State has always encouraged sports and it is a great achievement that motor sports – which  is one of the most expensive sport is being organized in our district.

He also mentioned about the five day National level Inter University Athletic Meet which is was held at the newly inaugurated synthetic track of Swaraj ground at Moodbidri.

He  was visibly enthused when he informed that from the 30th April to the 4th of May a State level sports event will be held which will be inaugurated by Siddaramaiah and attended by Congress Rajasthan President, Sachin Pilot and Bollywood Actor Sunil Shetty.

Abhayachandra also tried his hand riding a sports bike, the newly launched Suzuki Gixxer, went for a test drive in a Mitusbishi Pajero and ventured around various vehicles across the Expo.

Thimaya Shetty of Pancharatna International Hotel, Moodabidri was specially thanked on the occasion for contributing the ground for the event. Kuldeep,  Vishwas Shetty, Akshay Kumar, Virendra, Pratap Kumar, Member of TASC, Abu Ala, Member of TASC, Akshay K Jain, President of BAC, Chengappa AD, Member of BAC others were present.

Several stunts and other motor thrilling activities will be performed towards the evening today.  Dealers of several vehicle brands displayed their latest models at the Expo. These include:  Audi, BMW, Maruti Swift, Maruti Ciaz, Tata Zest, Tata Bolt, AWD Duster – Reno, Fiat – Hanuman cars, Ford – Eco Sport, Volkswagen -Polo, Tvs Apche 160cc, Tvs Star City, Tvs Wego, Suzuki Ray Z, Suzuki Access, Gixxer – Suzuki Motorcycle India, Yamaha FZ, Mitsubishi Motors, Honda CB Trigger, Honda CBR 150R Sports bike, Honda Dream Yuga, Honda Matrix, i20 versions and many more. 

The costliest car on display was the 96 Lakh BMW, with the Audi following close behind.

The main event Autocross 15  is scheduled to be held tomorrow on April 5th. It will showcase  2 wheelers & 4 wheelers in a rough riding competition with all the safety guards in place on a well laid out and designed track The event has been certified by the Federation of Motor Sport Clubs of India (FMSCI), for following all the safety norms prevailing in the motor sports events.
