6 yr old school boy hit by tempo ; furious locals stage protest

Mangalore : A six-year-old child was seriously injured when he was hit by an Eicher tempo while he was waiting for the school van, at Gurpur on Thursday June 5. The incident sparked protest by angry locals.

The injured child has been identified as Rohit a first standard student of Pompei School. Reportedly Rohit was standing with his mother waiting for the school van when a tempo rammed into him. He sustained gruesome injures, and according to some sources, he  has succumbed to the wounds.

The accident led to a furious protest by the angry locals.However, the driver of the tempo fled from the spot, before any action could be taken.

In the protest the locals blocked roads leading to heavy traffic. They even  damaged the tempo which caused the accident and burnt tyres to express their rage.

The protestors demanded that the road at Gurpur be widened. They said they had appealed to the authorities several times in the past to widen the road, and that  no measure has been taken, they said.

Police rushed to the spot. However, the protestors were adamant that the Deputy Commissioner, MLA and MP visited the spot.
