4 arrested for assault and bid to loot merchant

Kasargod: Police personnel of Rajapura station have arrested four persons on the charges of assaulting and trying a loot a merchant after covering his head with a gunny bag. The incident was reported on March  25, Tuesday night.

Those arrested are KM Nawaz (32), NS Iqbal (19) and Mohammad Jabid(18) of Nellikunje. One of the arrested is a  minor and is 17 years old.

The injured  trader is Jain Jacob (42), owner of JJ Stores of Panattur. He has been hospitalised. Police could gather vital clues about the assailants as their car  met with an accident near Kuttikol while fleeing after attacking the trader.

It is learnt, the car bound assailants  had hit Jacob on his head when he was on way home after closing his shop. They  then  covered his head  with a gunny bag and tried to  rob his cash bag.

Jacob who managed to escape, immediately informed  people living in a nearby house. Though locals immediately tried to give the assailants a chase, it was futile. Finally police were informed and they found a car which had crashed against an electric pole near Kuttikol. The assailants were later arrested.
