Udupi: Vinay Kumar Sorake, State Minister for Urban Development informed the media that the state level youth festival for the year 2012-13 will be held at Abhinaya Ranga Mantapa at Yellur village in Udupi from February 1 to 3.
The minister said nearly one thousand youth delegates are expected to participate in the festival. A total of ten youth awards carrying a cash prize of Rs 10000 will be awarded on the occasion. Two organisations Soraba taluk Youth Association- Shimoga and Vandemataram Youth Association- Manvi, Raichur will each receive Rs 25000 cash prize .
The Guinness world record holding swimmer Gopal Kharvi, international Karate expert Soni Shetty Ulluru and local talent Venkatu Devadiga will be felicitated on the occasion.
The youth festival will include cultural programmes like folk dance, ‘Kolata’, ‘Doddata’, ‘Sannata’, ‘Veeragase’, ‘Yakshagana Mela’, ‘Charmavadyamela’, ‘Lavani’, ‘Gigi Pada’, ‘Rangageethe’, ‘Sobane Pada’, ‘Beesuva Pada’ and so on.
The festival will be inaugurated by Sorake himself. The youth awards will be conferred by Dr Nagalambikadevi, Chief Secretary of Youth Services and Sports Department, Bangalore. The Minister for Youth Services, Sports and Fisheries, Abhaychandra Jain will preside. Udupi-Chikmagalur MP Jayaprakash Hegde, ZP President Upendra Nayak, Udupi MLA Pramodh Madhawaraj, Kundapur MLA Haladi Srinivas Shetty, Byndoor MLA Gopal Poojary and Karkala MLA Sunil Kumar will be the chief guests.
