2 bus crew assaulted for not abiding by bandh call in Shirva

Udupi : Shirva in Udupi district which witnessed a bandh on January 20, Monday in protest against the molestation of a minor in a bus, continues to remain tense following another incident wherein a group of people reportedly assaulted two bus employees who aid not abide by the bandh call.

It is learnt that a bus was plying towards Padubelle when a group of people stopped the bus and threatened them. They then assaulted the bus conductor 34-year-old Mohammed Asim, and driver 34-year-old Mohammed Hanif of Belapu.

The group forced Asim and Hanif to drive the bus to Shankarapura, and back to Shirva. Finally one of the bus driver escaped to the mosque in Shirva where afternoon prayers were being held. He told his community members that the other community men are into revenge act.

The people who came out of the Mosque after offering prayers started shouting against the other community and both sides began to hurl verbal abuse. Police had to resort to a lathi charge to disperse the crowd.

The victims  Hanif and Asim were admitted to Ajjarkad hospital.
