Mangalore: An 18-year-old boy from Gujarat drowned in the Shambhavi river near Mulki at Kolachi Kambla on Sunday February 9

The deceased has been identified as Jignesh from Gujarat, a first year BSc student from St Ann’s College, who had recently joined the college.

Reportedly Jignesh along with his classmates Viral, Sumarling, Nitesh and Prakash went for a swim in Shambhavi River, however the strong currents of the river pulled in Jignesh and Viral. Viral was saved by his friends. But,  unfortunately Jignesh drowned.

The on-lookers alerted the locals and the rescue team was called but the search has been in vain. Viral has been  admitted to a local hospital.

Mulki police have registered a case.
