1 injured in group clash in Ullal

Ullal: One person was injured and two lorries damaged in a clash between two groups  over the issue of an Eid-Milad procession at Kotepura and Ullala Kodi  in Ullal Police Station limits.

The injured person is Abdul Latif, a resident of Ullal Kodi, who is the brother of Ashraf Bava Kodi, a councillor. He was attacked with a sword allegedly by Mannan of Kotepura. The injured has been admitted to a private hospital in Tokkottu.

It is learnt,  the three masjids at Kodi had not organised the Miladunnabi Rally this time. A local rowdy had questioned this and even threatened many in the area over the issue. This even led to a clash between two groups on January 16, Wednesday evening. On the pretext that a water tanker had brushed past a woman at Ullala Kodi, a group from Kotepura had intercepted the tanker and had broken its glass panes. The group had even stoned the police who had rushed to the spot.

As a continuation, a four member group from Kotepura including Mannan  had allegedly  stoned a  fish lorry stationed near a club at Kodi. When Abdul Latif and a few others questioned  this, Mannan tried to attack Latif with a machete. In the process Latif sustained injuries in his hand.The assailants fled the scene as locals gathered.
it is learnt Mannan is an accused in the case of murder of the watchman of the Fish Oil Mill in the area.

Police sources said a complaint and counter complaint has been lodged in connection with the attack.
