Bengaluru: In yet another case of reckless and negligent driving, a speeding car killed two students at Kempapura junction near Hebbal on Thursday morning, April 14.

The deceased are Arvind (19) and Vinod (17). Two others including car driver Anitha (54) sustained severe injuries and their condition is said to be critical.

According to police, the Anitha lost control over the car and bumped on the road median, later turned towards the one way and crashed into bikes.

Arvind died on spot and Vinod breathed his last while shifting him to hospital.

Two others who were injuries are being treated at Columbia Asia hospital. Anitha’s condition is critical, sources said.

Preliminary reports said that, Anitha might have suffered drowsiness while driving, as she was on night shift, which could have led to the accident. She works for an MNC and her car carries ‘Learner’s’ board on the windshield, police sources said.

The deceased Arvind is a resident of Ganganagar and others involved are said to be non-localites.

The real reason for the accident is yet to be ascertained.

Meanwhile, it can be recalled that two girl students were also crushed under a water tanker two years ago at the same spot and later on the junction had been declared as an accident prone zone after a series of protests by students and residents. No concrete action has been taken so far to make it a safer zone for commuters till now.

The vicinity houses a number of schools and colleges and students find it difficult to commute in this stretch and cross the road.

The construction of a skywalk near the junction is moving at snail’s pace which was started two years ago after the two ill fated girl students died.
