Bengaluru: Irked by mother’s advice to concentrate on studies rather than hanging out with friends, a student committed suicide on Saturday late night here.

The deceased is identified as Sofia (23), a resident of Electronic city and student of Presidency College. She was staying in a hostel and on Friday, Sofia’s mother had visited the hostel to pay the fees. When she came to the hostel Sofia was not to be found in the hostel. Hence her mother left the place only to return on Saturday.

She took Sofia to task and directed her to concentrate on studies rather than hanging out with friends. When this dialogue between the mother-daughter duo took place in front of Sofia’s friends, the latter felt a little embarrassed.

It is said that the same incident drove Sofia to end her life later in her hostel room.

Amruthhalli police have registered case.
