Kashmir: Burhan Muzaffar Wani, the Hizbul Poster Boy was laid to rest in the valley amidst thousands and thousands of grieving people who made sure slogans of ‘Azadi’ resonated again in the valley.

Even as the security forces hailed the killing of Hizbul Mujahideen district commander as one of the biggest successes of the recent times, experts on political issues in Kashmir differ as they say that there is another side to the same story, which can be far more important.

Burhan’s death cannot be seen as end of insurgency as there are chances of scores and scores of young Kashmiris seeking revenge of the killing of the most charismatic and high profile insurgency leader.

There are all possibilities of young Kashmiris drawing inspiration from him and doing what it takes to complete Wani’s ‘unaccomplished mission’.

Hailing his sacrifice, his mourners called him a ‘martyr’, shouted out slogans in his praise and also rebuked Indian government and the security agencies. The pro-Pakistan slogan reverberated again in the valley.

Speaking his heart out on the same lines, former chief minister of Kashmir Omar Abdullah hit the nail on Twitter and said: Alas Burhan isn’t the 1st to pick up the gun & won’t be the last.@JKNC_ has always maintained that a political problem needs pol. solution.

With Burhan’s death, experts say the need to re-think on India’s strategy on Kashmir issue has cropped up again.
