Bangalore: It was decided to borrow a loan amounting to Rs 1,701 crore from a Japanese Bank in order to lay trenches along the reserved forests in the state to avoid straying of wild tuskers into inhabited lands, said state forests minister Ramanath Rai.
Addressing the media persons, minister Rai said that necessary actions are being taken to avoid elephantine menace in farmlands. The trenches will be dug up in reserve forests of 33,000 square kilometers in the state, since it needs huge amounts, it was decided to borrow Rs 1,701 crore from Japan to execute the plan at the earliest, said minister Rai.
The state authorities are contemplating on repossessing revenue land that resembles forest, after taking a joint survey by forest and revenue department officials, added minister Rai.
