Bangalore : State Minister for Higher Education RV Deshpande has informed that a Rajeev Gandhi Loan Scholarship Scheme has been implemented from this academic year for the benefit of students undergoing B.A.B.Com, B.Sc and other courses whose annual family income does not exceed Rs 2.5 lakh.
Speaking to reporters here, the minister said the government will offer full interest subsidy during the period of study after which the students will have to p repay in equated monthly instalments towards principal and interest.
Continuing he said the scheme will be implemented with the co-operation of scheduled banks. The repayment will commence one year after completion of course or six months after securing a job, whichever is early.
The minister said the scheme is meant for students in government and aided colleges affiliated to universities in the state.
He also informed that a common academic calendar for state universities will be introduced from the next academic year.
