NSS wing of Nitte University and AB Shetty college observes World Cancer Day

Mangalore:  The medical students of NSS wing of Nitte University and AB Shetty college observed World Cancer Day by organising an awareness programme at IMA house, Milagres on Tuesday, February 4.

The medical students enacted a street play to create awareness on oral cancer. The students   have scheduled an all-day free check up camp for the oral cancer patients.

Dr S Ramanand Shetty, Vice Chancellor of Nitte University who presided over the function, said  “We are celebrating the ‘World Cancer Day’ with an intention to generate awareness   regards to the illness. People think that cancer cannot be cured; but today there are ways wherein treatment is possible.”

“The World Cancer Day was declared in the year of 2008, since then we have been organizing the awareness campaign”, he added.

Addressing the gathering as a chief guest, Narayana, Area Officer of railways said, “Government has been trying to work towards the welfare of the cancer patients and treatments are provided at subsidized cost in some places.”

He congratulated the students of Nitte University for their tremendous effort towards this noble cause.

Dr Murali Mohan, NSS Programme Co-ordinator of  Nitte University welcomed the guests as well as proposed the vote of thanks. Dr Mangesh Shenoy, Dr Ranjith Shetty and others were also present.
