Bengaluru: The state Cabinet approved the proposal of selling 3,667 acres of land to JSW Steel in the Ballari district. The sale was approved at Rs 1.50 lakh per acre.

According to sources, this decision was taken amidst protests from senior Congress leader, MLA H K Patil who claimed that JSW Steel owed over Rs 1,200 crores to the state-run MSIL.

If sources are to be believed, a few officers requested Chief Minister H D Kumaraswamy to defer the issue to the next Cabinet meeting, citing a letter from MLA H K Patil. But industries minister K J George urged the CM to clear the proposal in this meeting itself.
