Bengaluru: Over 20 persons, mostly Dalits were injured after miscreants allegedly belonging to the upper castes pelted stones at a Dalit youth’s marriage procession, in their colony in Malli and Nagavalli villages of the Kalaburugi district.
Senior police officers rushed to the spot.
The main reason for the stone pelting is not confirmed. According to the preliminary investigation, all started when a Dalit family tried to take a marriage procession in the upper caste colony and visit the Hanumantha temple of the village.
According to the sources 20 persons, mostly Dalits, who were part of the marriage procession sustained injuries.
The first-of-its-kind incident sent shock waves across the state. The police launched an investigation.
According to the police, miscreants pelted stones on the police vehicle too.
Senior police officers are camping in the village.
