Bengaluru: The Karnataka Legislative Assembly turned chaotic on Monday, March 2, when leaders of the Opposition, especially the Congress party leaders, demanded a discussion on BJP legislator Basangouda Patil Yatnal allegedly insulting freedom fighter Dr H S Doreswamy.
It can be recalled that last week, Yatnal allegedly termed the 101-year-old freedom fighter a “Pakistani agent”.
Earlier, when the Assembly session began on Monday morning, Speaker Vishweshwara Hegde Kageri directed Chief Minister B S Yediyurappa to discuss the speech made by Karnataka Governor Vajubhai Vala.
This is when Leader of the Opposition, Siddaramaiah urged the House to first discuss Yatnal’s controversial statement against Doreswamy. Speaker Kageri said that matters cannot be discussed just like that, as it was necessary for a notice to be issued in the House before a subject is discussed.
While the Speaker directed CM BSY to continue, the Opposition leaders entered the Well of the House and began protesting against the BJP leaders. After BSY placed his response to the Governor’s speech, Speaker Kageri adjourned the House for half-an-hour.
