No special assembly session to ratify GST Bill: Minister Jayachandra

Bengaluru: The State Cabinet on Saturday decided to cancel the plan of convening a special session of state legislature to ratify the Goods and Service Tax (GST) Bill.

Malls, buildings on Bengaluru drains to be demolished: Minister-1Briefing the media persons here on Saturday after the Cabinet meeting, Law and Parliamentary Affairs Minister T B Jayachandra said that the State Cabinet had earlier decided to convene the special session of the state legislature on September 14 to ratify the GST Bill and the Cabinet had availed the Governor’s nod for this. “Now there is no need for convening the special legislature session since the President had given assent to it. We will convene this to the Governor,” Minister Jayachandra said.

Cauvery issue

Minister Jayachandra said that the state government has filed petition in the Supreme Court for modification of its judgement delivered on September 5 directing Karnataka to release 15,000 cusecs of Cauvery water per day for 10 days. “We are expecting justice from Cauvery supervisory committee meeting scheduled for Monday. Our chief secretary, advocate general and technical team are already in Delhi,” Minister Jayachandra said.

CM letter to PM

Minister Jayachandra said there was no response from Prime Minister Narendra Modi to the letter written by Chief Minister Siddaramaiah. “We have not received any response from the Prime Minister. I came to know that Union Minister for Water Resources Uma Bharati’s announcement stating that Centre will intervene if the need arises. I have not received any information on this. I welcome it if the union minister made such announcement. I also appeal BJP MPs from Karnataka to exert pressure on the Centre to solve the Cauvery water dispute,” the minister said.
