Bengaluru: The Indian Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued a forecast for continued heatwave conditions in parts of India.
Heatwave conditions are expected to persist in East India till May 1st. Red alerts have been extended for Odisha, Bihar, West Bengal, and Rayalaseema. In south, heatwave conditions are likely to continue over the South Peninsular region for the next five days. Telangana, Interior Karnataka, Coastal Andhra Pradesh and Yanam are among the affected areas.
Bengaluru, will continue to expect dry weather with a maximum temperature of around 37 degrees Celsius over the next 48 hours, said the weather agency. Heatwave-like conditions are likely to prevail for a few more days in Mumbai, it added.
The national capital is likely to sizzle for the next three days, temmperatures are unlikely to rise significantly. However, it may reach 40 degrees Celsius on the weekend. There’s a chance of thunderstorms with strong winds and lightning on May 4 , said the IMD.
Heavy rainfall and thunderstorms are expected to continue over the next five days in Arunachal Pradesh, Assam, Meghalaya, Nagaland, Manipur, Mizoram, Tripura, and other northeastern states.
Relief from the heatwave is expected in most areas by the beginning of next week, said the weather department.
