Namma Metro to run additional trips from today

Bengaluru: For all those people who are fed up of traveling in crowded metros, the BMRCL has a new year gift as it has decided to run metro trains once in every 3.5 minutes instead of 4 minutes, during peak hours in purple line. In green line, the train will run once in every 6 minutes.

The new timetable will be implemented from today. In Purple Line, every day 10 trains and 3 trains would run in Green Line additionally, said the sources.

After the completion of the first phase, the density of passengers is increasing both in Green and Purple Lines, during the peak hours between 8.30 am to 10.30 am and 5.30 pm and 8 pm. It is becoming difficult for passengers to step into the metro trains during these rush hours.

Metros run once in 4 minutes in the Purple Line between 8.50 am and 10.10 am, and 5.58 pm to 7.42 pm. They run once in 6 minutes in Green Lines between 8.53 am to 10.17 am and in the evening. However, the condition didn’t improve. The BMRCL officials hope that with the increase in trips, there would be some improvement in the condition.

The BMRCL also signed a memorandum to increase the number of bogies from 3 to 6 and memorandum was signed with BMEL to purchase total 150 bogies. However, the passengers have to wait til February to get the bogies ready for travel.

During the extended hours on Sunday, 24,318 people traveled through metro trains. As a whole day, 3.26 lakh people used metro on Sunday. With this, the corporation collected an income of Rs 98 lakh, which includes Rs 50.33 lakh from the Purple line and Rs 48 lakh from Green Line.
