Miscreants offend Ambedkar’s portrait ; 3 arrested

Kanakapura : An incident wherein Dr BR Ambedkar, the architect of Indian constitution was offended by tearing off his portrait and  hitting it with slippers, has been reported from Alanatha village in Kodihalli police station limits of the taluk. It is believed that it was an act of a group of miscreants in an inebriated state. Police have arrested three persons in this connection.

Those arrested are Ramu (22), Suresh (23) and Suresh (21) of Santhekodihalli village. Another accused is absconding.

It is learnt, the four youth who arrived  in the village in two bikes, broke open the Ambedkar Bhavan doors and   consumed meat and  liquor. Later they reportedly danced  and then ripped off Ambedkar’s portrait hanging on the wall and offended it.

On coming to know about the incident, villagers rushed to the spot and thrashed the youngsters black and blue. They then informed the  police after locking them up inside.

Senior officials including  ASP Kuldeep Jain, Tahsildar Shivarudraiah, Social Welfare Officer Tejananda Reddy and others visited the spot.
