Udupi: District in-charge minister, Jayamala who is also the women and child welfare minister has appointed a transgender as her office staff at Vidhana Soudha.

Jayamala recruited Parichaya Gowda as her office clerk and Gowda reported to duty on Friday.

Gowda will be the second person from the transgender community to join the service at the state secretariat. M Monisha, a member of the LGBT community is already working at Vikasa Soudha, in Belagavi. She joined the duty in December 2018.

“It is a temporary job. But minister’s move will help the government to bring the LGBT community to the mainstream,” said an officer working at the secretariat.
