Four MNREGA workers die, 16 injured in accident in Koppal

Bengaluru: Four Mahatma Gandhi National Rural Employment Guarantee (MNREGA) Act workers died on the spot when the tractor in which they were traveling toppled in Mukkappi village of Koppala taluk on Friday night.

As many as 16 others were injured and were rushed to the Koppala Institute of Medical Sciences hospital.

According to the Koppala police, all the four workers were returning to their home after participating in two days long protest against delayed payment for labourers under the MNREGA scheme. “They all belong to Mukkappi village. Around 20 people were traveling. The incident happened when the tractor driver lost control over the wheels and the vehicle toppled,” said authorities.
