Bengaluru: In a first of such crackdown by the BJP government, the Mahisha Dasara celebration has been banned in Mysuru. Prohibitory order has been imposed in the Chamundi Hills between 6 am and 6 pm to ensure that the Mahisha Dasara is not celebrated.

Progressive organisations are celebrating the Mahisha Dasara across Mysuru on Friday. The main event was planned at the atop of the Chamundi hills in front of the Mahisha statue. But now the police have removed the pandal and the stage put up by the organizers.

The claim of the progressive organisations is that Mahishasura was the pro-people ruler of Mysuru region and his celebrations are hijacked by the caste Hindus. They are organising the Mahisha Dasara for many years as a counter to the annual Dasara festival.
