Kharge flags off new train Bidar to Bangalore

Bidar: Railway minister Mallikarjun Kharge met a much felt need of people of Bidar by flagging off a new train connecting Bidar with Bangalore on Sunday.

People of Bidar have been waiting for a train which would connect them with the state capital in 12-14 hours compared to the existing Nanded-Bangalore Express which takes about 18 hours.

The new tri-weekly express which leaves Bidar at 6.25 pm, reaches Yeshwantpur at 7.40 am. On the return journey, it leaves Yeshwantpur at 7.15 am and reaches Bidar at 9.30 am.

Speaking on the occasion, Kharge announced that his priority was to provide train connectivity to Chikmagalur and Kodagu districts which have no train connectivity. “If railway security officials give the green signal, work  will be taken up in less than 20 days”, he said.

With regard to Kodagu district, the Mysore-Kushalnagar line will be laid under a cost sharing scheme with the state government. “If the state govt provides land, the survey work will be taken up soon”, he added. Bidar Lok Sabha member N. Dharam Singh, district legislators  and senior officials of the railway department participated in the programme.
