Freedom fighter a year away from Century: H S Doreswamy feted

Bengaluru: Renowned freedom fighter H S Doreswamy was feted at home on him completing 99 years of age on April 10, 2017.

Born at Harohalli near Bengaluru on April 10, 1918, Doreswamy was felicitated by Mayor Padmavathi, Deputy Mayor Anand and many others who wished the nonagenarian on his stepping into the 100th year.Prof. B K Chandrashekar and few school children were seen wishing the freedom fighter at his residence.

Inspired by Mahatma Gandhi, Doreswamy jumped into the freedom struggle at a very young age.He was detained by the British for 14 months during the Quit India Movement. He had hurled couple of crude bombs at the British establishment, mainly destroying some critical documents. Even during emergency, Doreswamy remained in the prison for 4 months.

In recent times, he has been spearheading the fight against land sharks in Bengaluru over lake encroachment and also supporting the cause of Diddalli tribals of Kodagu seeking land and shelter. He has taken active part in many social movements and has negotiated with different ruling regimes of the state to ensure justice to the deprived sections of the society using Gandhian Principals.
