Bangalore :The BBMP installed  snorkel hydraulic lift which can carry nearly half-a-dozen people installed next to the Gandhi statue, which was installed in 1955 at the park adjacent to Chinnaswamy stadium will be inaugurated on August 9th when Gandhi’s statue will be garlanded to mark the 72nd anniversary of the Quit India Movement. The lift will be maintained by the Bruhat Bangalore Mahanagara Palike (BBMP).

Installing the lift was the idea of MLC Ramachandra Gowda. He requested the BBMP to show some respect to Gandhi by installing a lift and contributed Rs 5 lakh towards it. BBMP has pegged the project cost at Rs 8.8 lakh.

Gandhi’s statue is garlanded thrice a year — his birth anniversary, his death anniversary and to mark the Quit India Day. Until now, Gandhi was garlanded using a stick, and often it was a comic sight as politicians of various hues used to test their stick work skills, much like hockey players, while attempting to garland the statue . Now it will be a dignified process, something the father of the nation deserves.
