Bengaluru: No Presents Please- Mumbai stories, a collection of short stories by well-known Kannada writer Jayanth Kaikini, which was translated into English by Tejaswini Niranjana has been selected for the final rounds of the DSC Prize for South Asian Literature.
The prize winners will be announced at the Tata Steel Kolkata Literary Meet in Kolkata, which will be held between January 22 and 27, 2019.
Six books have been shortlisted for the award at an event held at the London School of Economics and Political Science in London, on Wednesday evening. The jury is headed by Rudrangshu Mukherjee. Among the six shortlisted authors, four are from India while two are from Pakistan. The award money is Rs. 18 lakhs.
According to the DSC Prize Steering Committee, the award, this year received a record 88 entries, out of which 45 were written by women. A longlist of 16 novels including four translations, two by debut writers, six by women authors and three translated by women was earlier announced in New Delhi on October 10.
