Bengaluru: Karnataka State Natural Disaster Monitoring Centre (KSNDMC) has said that Dakshina Kannada district has received excess rainfall between May 10 and 16.
The reports of weather gauging centers of KSNDMC stated that DK has received 147 per cent more rainfall. The normal rain is 29 mm, whereas it actually rained 71.6 mm.
The neighboring district Udupi in comparison with DK, received just 66 per cent more rains than average.
The other districts to get high rainfall were Kalaburagi district with 145%, Uttara Kannada with 133%, Dharwad with 129% and Kodagu with 121%. Chikkamagaluru and Belagavi both received rains of 91%.
Even after the excess rainfall, DK district is facing water scarcity.
S S M Gavaskar, scientist at KSNDMC said that it will take time for rivers, channels and water bodies to get water. So it should rain some more days to reach that level.
“These rains have not brought much relief to the people because it is like pouring cold water over a hot pan. It is getting evaporated,” he said.
