Bengaluru: The officials of Department of Planning, Programme Monitoring and Statistics presented some vital stats before Chief Minister Siddaramaiah on Monday, which made his claims of good governance look faulty.

The presentation lasted a couple of hours and all top bureaucrats, including Chief Secretary Aravind Jadhav, were present.
The data was presented to the CM in a closed-door meeting at the Vidhana Soudha. It was for the year 2015-16. Some of the highlights of the presentation included non-utilisation of special grants to city corporations which had only Rs 72.80 crore of Rs 348 crore spent, slow progress under Swachh Bharat Abhiyan, which saw only 9,000 toilets constructed against the target of 1.4 lakh and financial performance of departments such as Housing, Medical Education and Labour was around 70-80 per cent.
Only two departments – IT&BT and Tourism – were able to achieve 100% performance in the last financial year.
Siddaramaiah has directed the officials to work hard and provide effective administration. He instructed them to implement budgetary programmes in a time-bound manner, clear files on the spot and also take action against non-performing officials.
Speaking to media, the CM said that he has set a deadline for all the department heads which was June-end. All budgetary schemes and programmes should be implemented and there should be at least 70% progress by November-end, he said.
