Bengaluru: Police arrested the boyfriend of a girl whose parents committed suicide on charges of abetment to suicide on Monday, May 16.

On Monday morning, Rashmi (22) and the accused Sridhar Gowda had come to attend the funeral of her father Manichandra (48) who died on Sunday. Her mother Sujatha (42) died on Saturday. Police gave them protection during the visit. Sridhar was arrested later in the evening.

It may be recalled that, on May 13, Rashmi had left home saying she was going with her friends to Mantri Mall to celebrate her birthday, but did not return home. Rashmi and Sridhar had eloped after her parents opposed to her affair after they came to know about it a year ago.

Manichandra and Sujatha, after learning that Rashmi had eloped, filed a missing complaint at the Peenya police station. Police sources said that the disheartened parents consumed poison after the police’s night-long search didn’t yield result.
