Bengaluru: The Bengaluru police have proposed to form a 50-member coordination committee that will mediate and amicably resolve the increasing number of conflicts involving African nationals staying in the city.

Additional Commissioner of Police ( East Division) P. Harishekaran on Monday told media that the committee would include representatives of African nationals , locals and city police officials. It would meet every month to discuss issues and take any action.

The move is in response to last month’s attacks on African nationals in Kothanur, which snowballed into controversies and put the city police at the receiving end.
Members of African associations, students and the employed would form half of the committee. The jurisdictional Deputy Commissioner of police would head the committee and the  jurisdictional police officers of the areas where the foreigners reside.

Harishekharan also said Africans overstaying in the city were being identified and would be deported once a list of such people was ready.
