Security guard got locked up while attempting burglary!

Bengaluru: A security guard who attempted to steal Rs 4.2 lakh cash from the cash chest of a branch of convenience store ( Reliance Fresh) in BTM Layout Bengaluru south east using duplicate keys was caught when he got locked up inside without finding a way to get out for the whole night on Sunday.

The accused Jayanth, (26), from Assam was caught when the other security guard on duty got alerted after the the burglars alarm went on. The security staff informed the manager who  rushed to the shop and searched premises and caught Jayanth who was hiding in the backery outlet and handed him over to Mico Layout police. The police, who interrogated him only to find that he had another accomplice Chandan, security guard at the outlet, who helped him to get a duplicate keys of the retail chain’s rear shutters. Police are trying to track Chandan.

Jayanth told the police that he was working as security guard in the same outlet for four months and was transferred to a mall in Konanakunte only a week ago. Chandan, who was working as security guard at the BTM Layout outlet, allegedly made duplicate keys of the rear shutters of the outlet and both planned to flee with the cash in the cash chest of the outlet when the retail chain closed down after working hours on Sunday night.

Jayanth and Chandan using the duplicate keys made by Chandan opened the rear shutters of the outlet on Sunday night. While Jayanth entered the outlet, Chandan stayed outside to keep watch over people coming that way. Jayanth after entering broke open the cash chest using crow bar and took out Rs 4.2 lakh cash only to make the alarm siren attached to the cash chest to blare suddenly. Chandan, who was standing outside after locking jayanth inside escaped from the spot leaving Jayanth inside the outlet.

DCP (south east) Rohini Katosh Sepat said that the Mico Layout police are on the look out for Jayanth’s accomplice Chandan. The money stolen by him has been recovered intact, she added.
