Bengaluru: S M Krishna, former chief minister and senior Congress leader made his stand public on Friday and said that he will suppport any decision taken by the government after special legislature to protect the interests of the state on Cauvery water dispute. His statement came after Chief Minister Siddaramaiah called on him on Thursday.
Krishna said that the latest order of the Supreme Court should be defied as the state has been asked to release 6,000 cusecs of water to Tamil Nadu. “It is apporpriate for the Legislature to adopt a resolution to defy the order and the same resolution should be forwarded to the Union government. Burying political differences, we have to stand by the state government at this juncture,” Krishna said.
“Allocate more funds to expedite the pending projects in the Cauvery basin. Withdraw cases filed against farmers and try to help farmers with compensation,” Krishna added.
“Centre should not shirk its responsibility of helping the state,” he opined. He also suggested that the state government should write a letter to the Supreme Court chief justice explaining the ground realities.
