Mandya: The Mandya division of Karnataka State Road Transport Corporation (KSRTC) incurred a loss of Rs 1.92 crore owing to the protests relating to Cauvery water dispute between Karnataka and Tamil Nadu.
KSRTC Divisional Controller M. Deepak Kumar informed media that while the operational loss was Rs 1.89 crore, Rs 2 lakh was lost owing to property damage. Mandya division had to either reduce or completely suspend its services on several days, he said.
The division has 475 buses, including 40 ‘Mandya Nagara Sarige’ buses, and operates State and inter-State stage carriage services daily on several routes. Even now, operations to Coimbatore have not resumed, added Kumar.
The Cauvery protests started on September 5 with the Supreme Court directing the State government to give 15,000 cusecs of water to Tamil Nadu. Bengaluru-Mysuru highway was completely blocked by the farmers for four days.
