Bengaluru: The Transport Department has decided to reduce the fare of the one-day pass on “Less Traffic Day” by Rs 5 inorder to encourage more people to make use of the BMTC buses. The Less Traffic Day would be observed on every second Sunday of the month. The passengers may buy the passes at Rs. 65 on that day.
It may be recalled that to reduce the increasing traffic and air pollution, the transport department, BMTC and BMRCL jointly decided to observe the second Sunday of every month as “Less Traffic Day.” Transport Minister H M Revanna will inaugurate the campaign on February 11 (Sunday).
The objective of the campaign is to motivate people to keep their vehicles aside and use public transport system. In the first phase, BMTC has cut the fares of only non-AC bus day passes. According to the corporation, the number of people who visit the tourist destinations of the city on Sundays is more and they would make use of this facility.
Meanwhile, Bangalore Metro Rail Corporation Limited (BMRCL) also declared 25 percent concession for the passengers on February 11, for those who travel using smart cards. At present, the corporation gives 15 percent concession to the smart card users on total travel expense. BMRCL will double the card recharge limit at the earliest, from Rs 1500 to Rs 3000.
