Bengaluru: In a big relief to the state government, the High Court upheld the recent amendments made to the Right to Education (RTE) Act. As per the amendment, the state government removed the RTE seats from the private schools in those wards where a government school or government-aided school is operating.

Various parents, organisations and activists had moved the High Court against this amendment, which brought down the number of RTE seats in the private schools from 1.50 lakhs to a mere 5,500 across the state.

On Friday, a High Court divisional bench led by Justice L Narayana Swamy and Justice P S Dinesh Kumar upheld the amendments. The Court upheld the argument of the government that this amendment will empower schools run by the government and government-aided agencies.
